Diane shares with artGuide art news blog the origins of her inspiration and creativity.  She is a local and nationally recognized landscape artist located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Diane is one of a few select artists to appear in this month's featured section covering landscapes.

Diane Pyun has moved through multiple paths to finally reach her home as a landscape and figurative painter.

Initially, studio art was a primary focus with studies at the New School of Design in New York and Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J. Design became the basis for a freelance livelihood for many years, with commissions spanning the fields of renovation, painting, and decorative arts. Subsequent studies in the studio with Dan Beck, John Poon, Lori Putnam and Dawn Whitelaw, and extensive painting en plein air became the inspiration for painting full time. Diane’s work has been juried into the North Carolina Fine Art Exhibition, the 2012 Annual Art of the Auction for the North Carolina Museum of Art, and a group exhibition at Nicole’s Art Gallery in Raleigh, N.C.

Diane loves to use her work to highlight the beauty and communities of her beloved home state of North Carolina. Her work encompasses rather ordinary settings, from city streets to forested paths and garden sanctuaries. An encounter with a scene, an object, or a subject becomes the impetus to translate that vision. Drawing is essential, and a lifelong habit; painting becomes the recording. Whether in plein air or in the studio, the question becomes what to preserve, where to abstract, how to translate, and what steps to take. It may be that she layers abstract over abstract until the real emerges, and her design, value and brushstroke intersect in a satisfactory way. Sometimes the process varies and thus the style. The goal remains intact: To describe the ordinary, to emphasize the wonder, and to revel in the process.

Diane lives and works in the Raleigh, N.C., with her husband and two dogs.
