Piedmont Pastel Society: NC Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibit 2017

North Carolina Juried Pastel Exhibit hosted by Piedmont Pastel Society 

artGuide art news blog presents information about the 2017 North Carolina Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibit. Taking place in Charlotte, North Carolina this exhibit includes artists from the coast to the mountains and the opening reception will be held May 6th. 

The Piedmont Pastel Society hosts the 6th Annual 2017 NC Statewide Juried Pastel Exhibition "On Common Ground: Pastel Paintings From the Mountains to the Sea," May 3 through June 2, 2017, at The Cornwell Center, 2001 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28207. 

The NC Statewide Exhibition is a collaboration of three pastel societies: The Appalachian Pastel Society (APS), the Pastel Society of North Carolina (PSNC) and the Piedmont Pastel Society (PPS). Its mission is to inspire, to increase public appreciation for the lasting value and beauty of pastelpaintings, and to establish the state as an emerging cultural market for the medium. 

This year's entrants vied for awards of $1000 for Best in Show, $800 for First Place, $650 for Second Place and $550 for Third Place. Additional exceptional paintings were awarded sponsors' product awards.

Master pastel artist Collette Odya-Smith served as Juror of Selections and Master pastel artist Stan Sperlak served as Judge of Awards.   

Selections juror Colette Odya-Smith is a Master Pastelist of Le Societe des Pastelistes de France, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, a Master Circle member of the International Association of Pastel Societies, and a Distinguished Pastelist of the Pastel Society of New Mexico.  

Awards juror Stan Sperlak has earned international recognition for his pastelpaintings and workshops, most recently in China, Australia and New Zealand. 

Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony is Saturday, May 6, from 7:00 a 9:00pm, at The Cornwell Center.
